Diocesan Special Collections

Below is a list of annual collections required in the Diocese of Covington:

Collection for Opportunities for Life
This collection funds Opportunities for Life, which is a non-profit organization whose mission is to offer non-judgmental and confidential support to women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and help them recognize the many opportunities and resources that exist for those who choose life.

Collection for International Needs
This collection funds five Catholic agencies that work to serve our suffering brothers and sisters around the world through humanitarian aid, resettling displaced individuals and families, and advocating on behalf of victims.  The agencies include Catholic Relief Services, The Church in Latin America, The Church in Central and Eastern Europe, The Pontifical Mission Aid Societies, and The Holy Land Collection.

Collection for the Holy Father’s Charities (Peter’s Pence)
This collection provides the Holy Father with the funds he needs to carry out his most important charitable works around the world.  The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged:  victims of war, oppression, and disasters.

Collection for Domestic Needs
This collection funds the ministries of six Catholic Appeals as they work to strengthen the Church throughout the United States. They include the Black and Indian Missions Appeal, Catholic Communications Campaign, Thomas More College, The Catholic University of America, Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and Catholic Home Mission Appeal.

Collection for the Education of our Seminarians
This collection directly supports the education and formation needs of those men who are discerning the call to ordained priesthood.

Collection for the Support of Retired Religious
This collection supports the day-to-day care of thousands of elderly religious and helps their communities develop long-term retirement strategies.  Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests offered their lives in service to others, often ministering for little, if any, pay. Their sacrifices over many decades now leave their religious communities without adequate savings for retirement and health care.
