Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament of forgiveness and healing.  The state of grace, lost as a result of personal sin, is restored through this sacrament by the confession of sin and the reception of absolution by the priest.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as the Sacrament of Penance (or just Penance), continues the healing ministry of Jesus Christ who, by God’s mercy, came into this world to bring salvation by the forgiveness of sin.  This sacrament can be received as often as needed.  It is recommended that the sacrament be received once a month.

The Celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Saint Agnes Church

When a young person enters the 2nd year of grade school, an invitation is extended by the parish to consider receiving the Sacrament of First Reconciliation.  Preparation is provided as part of the grade school curriculum and also through the CCD program (for Catholic children attending a non-Catholic grade school).  First Reconciliation is received as a class in early December at Saint Agnes Church.

Arrangements for older Catholic children and Catholic adults to receive their First Reconciliation can be made by contacting Anita Dunn, Coordinator of Religious Education, at (859) 431-1802 or adunn@saintagnes.com.

Non-Catholic and non-baptized adults who desire to receive this sacrament are enrolled in the parish RCIA program and receive their First Reconciliation during the Season of Lent (several weeks before Easter Sunday).  Questions can be directed to Paula Fritz, Coordinator of RCIA, at (859) 431-1802 or pfritz@saintagnes.com.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered within a communal celebration once during the Season of Advent and once during the Season of Lent.  This sacrament is made available every Saturday throughout the year after the 8:30 a.m. Mass.  It is also made available on First Fridays after the 11:30 a.m. Mass.  If you wish, you can call and make an appointment with one of the parish priests outside these scheduled times.
